UM3561 IC Tone Generator Circuit

Last Updated on April 18, 2019 by Admin 3 Comments

The integrated circuit UM3561 is an excellent ROM (Read Only Memory) IC. The key feature of this chip is to create unique siren sounds such as Ambulance, Police, machine gun, and Fire brigade siren sound.

This particular IC contains a tone oscillator along with tune range hooks, plus its a cheap IC primarily intended for toy vehicle purposes.

The building of this circuit can be carried out using some fundamental electronic and electric parts.

For instance, a simple siren generator could be constructed with a single outer resistor in addition to a loudspeaker driver transistor. This short article talks about a summary of the sound generator IC UM3561.

About IC UM3561

The IC UM3561 consists of an oscillator along with selector stages. A sleek and stylish audio component could be designed with just a few extra parts.

The UM3561 includes a programmed mask ROM to replicate siren sound.

There exists a tone generator within UM3561, that is capable of producing various types of musical tones through the oscillator clock and depending on the information written by the ROM.

Every single data saved in the ROM compares to every tone and this could be selected through the use of the address of the data location.

The standard working voltage of UM3561 is 3V and the Working Current is 150μA. The output current of UM3561 is 3mA.

IC UM3561 Pin Configuration

IC UM3561 Pin Details

The IC UM3561 Pin Configuration consists of the below specified pins.

  • Pin-1 (SEL2): Choice of Audio Tones
  • Pin-2 (Vss): Minus (-ve) power supply
  • Pin-3 (Output): Constant audio generation output
  • Pin-4 (NC): Intrinsic test pin: For normal functioning, keep this unconnected
  • Pin-5 (Vdd): Positive (+ve) power supply
  • Pin-6 (SEL1): Allows selection of sound variations pin-1
  • Pin-7 (OSC1): External oscillator lead-1
  • Pin-8 (OSC2): External oscillator lead-2

Block Diagram of IC UM3561

Internal Block Diagram of IC UM3561

The block diagram of IC UM3561 is demonstrated below. This IC contains an oscillator circuit whose frequency could be governed with the resistor attached outwardly to the 1st oscillator or pin7 along with oscillator2 or pin8.

As a result, the amplitudes that are generated is going to be transferred to a control circuit. This circuit could be implemented with respect to the selection of music tone via the pin-6 and pin1.

The control circuit resources the audio frequency to an address counter & to the ROM. Therefore the produced tone frequency become attainable through the o/p pin-3. Because the audio may be weaker; an amplifier is necessary to obtain a high in volume tone. Therefore the sound could be increased with a single NPN-transistor.

Four Siren Sound Generator using UM3561 IC

The UM3561 IC enables you to create circuits just like a Police siren, Fire engine siren, Ambulance siren, and Machine gun sound. The circuit of 4 siren sound generator using UM3561 IC is indicated below. This is a low-power CMOS integrated circuit.

The 4 diverse siren tones could be produced simply by pushing the 3 buttons like S1, S2 &S3. This circuit can easily be used for just about any form of audio generation preferences. For example, the produced sounds can be utilized as alarm circuit, tone generator, and siren circuit etc.

The developing of this circuit can be carried out using simple electronic components and a 3V battery pack. It is ideal for several low voltage programs.

The UM3561 can easily operate a piezo without resorting to any kind of stage of amplification. Within this circuit, just one transistor amplifier is employed to operate an 8-ohm speaker. Moreover, for additional volume of audio, the LM386 amplifier may be used in this particular circuit.

Main Features of IC UM3561

The key features of IC UM3561 consist of the following.

  • 4-sounds selection facility
  • Switch Switch ON Resetting
  • Low Operating 3V Operation
  • Can be Built Cheaply
  • Low-power CMOS LSI applied to alarm and plaything purposes.

Technical Specifications of IC UM3561

The technical specs of IC UM3561 range from the following.

  • DC Supply voltage ranges between 3.0V to +5.0V
  • Input or Output voltage (Vss) is 3.0V to +3.0V VDD
  • Wide operating temperature range -10°C to 60°C
  • storage Temperature range is-55°C to 125°C
  • Vdd (Supply voltage): Minimum -2.4V, Maximum -3.6V, and ideal -3V
  • Idd (Operational minimal Current): 150µA

Well, so these were some useful features of IC UM3561 sound generator, which can be implemented as siren generator intended for producing a siren sound in the toy vehicle software. Depending on the choice, this IC can easily produce 4 unique varieties of siren audio similar to a gun sound, ambulance siren, police siren, and fire brigade siren.

As shown, the 9v battery will fry the zener first, then fry the IC and then, depending on the failure mode, the Transistor will fry. Please think before putting out such things. A RESISTOR would solve this.
